Our Mission Statement

In the Diocese of Western Canada and Alaska

of the Reformed Episcopal Church

Built upon the authority of the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, the Diocese of Western Canada and Alaska declares its commitment to the work of evangelism, the bold and unadulterated proclaiming of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. In keeping this faith, this Diocese does not believe evangelism to be the end, but rather the beginning of its God given call. This Diocese is committed to discipleship, the work of training its believing members into Christ-like living (St. Matthew 28:20). This Church sets the highest priority on Biblical Worship. As the Gospel of Jesus Christ is truly taught, and the great mercies of God are truly known, believing men and women are led to offer their bodies as a living sacrifice, which is their spiritual service of worship. (Romans 12:1) The Reformed Episcopal Church believes and understands the Christian life to be fully lived within community. We are called, not only to salvation in Jesus Christ, but also to a visible communion with those who are saved. (1 Corinthians 12: 27) This communion, being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, transcends both temporal and geographical bounds, recognising that the gifting of the Holy Spirit as outlined in 1 Corinthians 12 is still active in lives and churches to-day."

The Reformed Episcopal Church is a creedal church, in that it adheres to the ancient Creeds, the Apostles’ Creed, ( A.D. 150), the Nicene Creed, (A.D. 325), and the Creed of St. Athanasius. It is a sacramental church, practising the Divinely ordained sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. These are outward and visible signs of God’s inward and spiritual grace. It is a confessional church, accepting the practices of the English Reformation as found in the 39 Articles of Religion. It is an Episcopal church, as practised in the earliest Christian eras through submission to the government of godly Bishops.

In this way, we embrace the doctrine and practice of the early Church of the Reformation, having a foundation for effective ministry in the Name of Jesus Christ to a world which is lost and dying without Him. To this end, we accept the responsibility to reach out to the non-churched with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in as many ways as possible, not necessarily bound to historic means of worship, but guided and empowered by them as an effective means of witness. We are a Prayer Book Church, set free by the Holy Spirit, proclaiming the saving power of the blood of Jesus. It is Christ’s call upon us to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, calling upon them to observe all things that I have commanded you..."

TO THIS END, THIS DIOCESE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO:-

1. To reach out to both those who are outside our existing congregations and to non-believers, and to establish new churches, as may be required, in and to every part of the Diocesan bounds, which is British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the North West Territories, the Yukon Territory, and Alaska

2. To assist financially, prayerfully and physically in any reasonable way, any and all existing congregations within the Diocese for the purpose of furthering the proclamation of the Gospel message;

3. To receive into the Diocese, those already existing congregations or prayer groups wishing to affiliate with the Reformed Episcopal Church, and to support them financially, prayerfully, and physically in any reasonable way possible;

4. To ordain into ministry those men who are qualified for the same and who have been properly examined by the Diocesan Examination Committee;

5. To welcome into lay ministry those men and women who are qualified for the same and have been properly recommended to and examined by the Diocesan Examination Committee.

THE OBJECTS OF THE DIOCESE AS STATED IN ITS DOCUMENT OF INCORPORATION, DECEMBER 19, 1996, ARE AS FOLLOWS:-

a) To establish, maintain and conduct churches and to carry on the teaching of the Gospel.

b) To uphold the traditions of the English Reformation, and to teach the Doctrines of Grace as set forth by the Protestant Reformers of the sixteenth century: through the emphasis on Scripture to provide a satisfactory and firm basis for the service of the member churches, and proper disciplinary supervision so that the testimony of a parish may be held to Biblical presentation of truth and a clear understanding of God's Word.

c) To employ and send out and direct Christian missionaries to preach the Gospel.

d) To conduct public and private meetings of a religious and evangelistic nature according to the Reformed Episcopal tradition.

e) To establish, maintain and conduct lessons for religious education and to employ and pay instructors thereof.

f) For the objects aforesaid:

1. To print, publish, sell and distribute literature of every nature and kind and to establish and operate printing presses and equipment of any kind in connection therewith.

2. To acquire, receive and take conveyances of such lands, moneys. mortgages and securities or other property as may be required for the purpose of a college or colleges. school or schools, or other types of buildings for the use and purposes above mentioned.

3. To acquire and hold land for religious purposes and to manage and administer the properties held by the Corporation of the Diocese of Western Canada and Alaska and to administer, receive and manage any equity in any and all property and funds, whether real or personal, that may be left by virtue of the closing or disbanding of any Parish, or of any society or group connected with the Parish, which was meeting under the name of the Reformed Episcopal Church, or of any other organization or society organized to further the interests of the Reformed Episcopal Church.

4. To acquire, receive, hold, conserve, administer, use and disburse properties, income. gifts, donations, devices and bequests in pursuance of the objects herein stated and to apply for all lawful and necessary grants from private or public sources which may be available to assist in carrying out the said objects.
